JUST a handful of schools and colleges across the county opened to pupils yesterday.
In Dorset, Mudeford Infants and Mudeford Junior School both opened, as did Sturminster Marshall First School. QE at Wimborne and Sturminster Newton High were both opened for exams but there was no school transport to them.
In Bournemouth, open schools included Kinson Primary, Stourfield Infants and Juniors, Moordown St John’s, St Peter’s, Muscliff Primary and St Walburga’s.
The vast majority of Poole schools also closed. Those remaining open included Lilliput First School, Longfleet and Old Town First School.
Alison Warner, the Chair of Governors from Lilliput First School said: “The roads are clear here and we checked the roads at 6.30 am and they have all been gritted. All of the staff have come in and we have two-thirds of children in and they are loving it.
“The parents are extremely happy for them to be in school. We have amazing staff that have made incredible effort to get here.”
Bournemouth University also closed. A spokesperson said: “This decision was made on the basis of the very poor surrounding road conditions and the ability of our staff and students to travel in and out safely to BU.”
