DETECTIVES have warned the driver involved in the Jade Clark fatal hit-and-run crash that officers will be knocking at their door.

The tragic 16-year-old was struck by a Volvo XC90 as she rode her red scooter along the A31 near Ashley Heath on the evening of Sunday February 24.

The driver left the scene before police arrived and a £5,000 reward has been put up for information that leads to an arrest and charge. The search for the driver is now a joint investigation by Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team and Traffic Department.

A dedicated team of officers have begun visiting all registered owners of Volvo XC90’s and so far more than 300 vehicles have been eliminated in over six counties.

Speaking directly to the motorist, DI Marcus Hester of MCIT, said: “If you own or use such a Volvo XC90 we will be coming to visit you. I’m directly appealing for the person who failed to stop to come forward and help me with the investigation into the tragic death of 16-year-old Jade Clark.”

Police can now reveal they are searching for a light coloured Volvo XC90 registered between 2003 and 2007, including vehicles with 52 to 57 plates and personalised registration plates.

DI Hester added: “If you know anything about where this car is or who may have been driving it, please call us. It may be difficult to come forward with this information but imagine yourself in the position of Jade’s family if this had happened to your son or daughter. Her devastated family deserve answers.

“I am appealing to the public to search their conscience. Someone clearly knows where this Volvo is. Do you know a neighbour, friend or colleague who uses an XC90? Has it suddenly disappeared?

“Or have you noticed a change in someone who drives an XC90? Have they become stressed or been off work sick?”

Police believe the vehicle would have suffered front-end damage during the accident.

DI Hester added: “Do you work in a body repair shop and have been approached to repair this vehicle? Or maybe you work in a vehicle spares or car breaker yard and have received an enquiry for parts to repair a damaged XC90? If so please come forward – that one phone call could be the breakthrough we need.”
