A WIMBORNE father-of-two is taking on the Bournemouth Marathon next week to continue his late wife’s inspiring charity work.
Paul Goddard, 45, will be completing the run in memory of wife, Lisa, who died on September 4, 2012 at the age of 38, from a sudden heart attack, leaving behind, Morgan, now 12, and Demi-Marie, now 10.
However, before her tragic death, Lisa organised a spring ball for the Daily Echo-backed Sparkle Appeal, while Paul ran the London Marathon, with all money raised going to Victoria Education College in Branksome.
Lisa also organised a ladies’ night to fundraise for a poorly eight-year-old and held a men’s charity night for the Prostate Cancer Charity, resulting in thousands of pounds going to good causes.
Paul said: “I am raising money for Poole Hospital Charity, with the specific aim for it to go to their cardiac heart department, as it is the hospital where my wife went to when it happened.
He added: “As a family, we have been through something life-changing, and I just wanted to give something back.
“Lisa did so much for charity and rather than take over, I just thought ‘Let’s keep this going’.
“I’m keeping positive and am running with the aim of raising £1,000, after I hit my £500 target.
“It’s quite nice that this is the first Bournemouth Marathon, it’s in our area, and it’s nice that even if I don’t do it again, I can say that I’ve done the first one.
“I find running a bit of a release and it’s my time to think.”
