September 3, 1914: Football Echo suspended during war
We have decided not to publish the "Football Echo" during the continuance of the War.
We agree with Lord Roberts that this is not the time for games, whilst the Empire's bravest sons are at grips with a remorseless foe.
Under happier auspices we should have been pleased to issue our sports edition again, but in suspending its publication we believe we are rightly interpreting public opinion.
We shall merely publish the League Results, and Local Matches in the ordinary editions of the "Bournemouth Daily Echo."
