POPULAR Jamaican chef Levi Roots will be headlining the 2015 Christchurch Food and Wine Festival.
Famed for his Reggae Reggae products, Levi Roots, will be cooking up some Caribbean recipes on Saturday, May 9 in the demonstration marquee, which will be moving to the Quomps on Christchurch Quay, as part of the new festival village.
Also joining the Festival on Sunday May 10 will be TV chef Dean Edwards, who was a Masterchef finalist in 2006 and is currently a resident chef on ITV’s Lorraine show.
After moving from Jamaica to Brixton, Levi Roots started making his home-made Reggae Reggae sauce in his kitchen and selling it from small oulets in London.
His break came when he appeared on BBC’s Dragons Den in 2007 and secured financial backing for his Reggae Reggae brand from Dragons Peter Jones and Richard Farleigh.
Since then his range of products can be found in most supermarkets, with a number of his cook books also available.
Vicki Hallam, chairman of the Christchurch Food Festival, said: “We are so fortunate to have secured these two great chefs for the 2015 festival.
“Levi is sure to attract a great crowd when he brings a taste of the Caribbean to the new location for the demonstration marquee on the Quomps while Dean is such an accomplished chef that we are all bound to pick up some great tips from him.
“Last year the Kings Arms held an extension to the festival with a Bake Day on the bowling green opposite the hotel on the Sunday, and that will be held again next year.
“The 2015 Festival will be bigger than ever as we spread out to another new location with the festival village on the Quomps.
“Along with the demonstration marquee, there will also be a number of new stalls as well as a VIP tent.”
