FLOWERS have been laid at Corfe Castle as residents paid tribute to Samantha Henderson.
By Saturday lunchtime 14 or so bunches of flowers, some with heartfelt tributes attached, along with candles, were laid on the town cross.
Dorset Police had asked people wanting to pay tribute to the 25-year-old mum of four young children, to do so at the old cross in the village square.
“We understand the community may wish to show their sympathy and condolences and express their grief through floral tributes,” said a message by Purbeck Police on the “Have you seen Samantha Henderson?” Facebook page.
“It is requested that this happens at the cross in Corfe Castle square.”
Samantha Henderson had been missing since January 21. A body discovered in the lake at Ham Common, Hamworthy by police on Friday, is believed to be hers.
One touching tribute attached to flowers read: “Taken from the world too young, a new star looks down on us watching over those she loved.”
Yellow and white dahlias, pink and red gerberas and yellow roses were among the colourful floral tributes placed beside the cross.
Overlooking the scene is the Sweet Shop where the young mum popped in to buy treats for her children.
“She was always lovely,” said the lady behind the counter, who did not wish to be named. “It’s a tragic start to the year.”
Across at the Corfe Castle Village Bakery, staff agreed. “She popped in and out and she was lovely,” said one.
The partner of Samantha Henderson, Dominic Isom from Halves Cottages, Corfe Castle pleaded not guilty to murder when he appeared at Winchester Crown Court on Friday. The 27-year-old was remanded in custody for a trial set for July 13.
