Nominations for the 2015/16 full time officer elections are now open, with spaces available for the next SUBU President, VP Activities, VP Education or VP Welfare.
Applications are now open (2nd February) until 5pm on 27th February 2015.
The SUBU Presidential role:
As president, the university, local and national community will look to them as a representative and main figurehead for all the students at BU. They will work to ensure the student voice is heard across the university, at top level university meetings, such as the university Board, covering a wide range of issues, from education and student experience committees, to approving new courses, new buildings and developments.
The President informs and guides the university on decisions that they undertake affecting students therefore it is important that time is dedicated to get student feedback on a huge range of topics discussed with the university.
VP Activities:
As the Vice President for the Activities council, they are an essential part of shaping students’ experience. VP Activities will be an executive member of SUBU and will act as a steering force behind the Activities Department; a huge part of SUBU, to help shape strategy and find new ways of getting students engaged, including those at Lansdowne.
The VP Activities must also work with SU Activities staff to help support those that are already engaged in extra-curricular activities, from clubs and societies to volunteering, RAG, the Green Taskforce and Nerve Media as well as many more, by facilitating and running student campaigns, projects and events.
VP Education:
The Vice President for Education acts as an educational figurehead of students who informs and guides them on academic decisions, from Quality Assurance (such as grade boundaries and what happens when students submit late etc.) to student’s educational experience.
They will be the link between what students want and the educational direction that the university takes.
Within this, they will have three main responsibilities: the Student Representative system, representing the student voice to BU and being an Executive member of SUBU.
VP Welfare:
This role will be to ensure that students’ non-academic study issues are defended and represented to the university
These welfare issues cover many areas, from health and wellbeing (physical, mental, emotional, and sexual) to issues with housing; transport between campuses or how to deal with exam stress.
They will work in alliance with all the Full-Time Officers as an Executive member of SUBU and members of Bournemouth’s community, where there are issues impacting students’ wellbeing.
