Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport - Sajid Javid MP visited Bournemouth University to speak to students and staff about BU's contribution to the digital economy.
The Minister was invited to BU by MP for Bournemouth West Conor Burns, who also joined him for the tour.
Sajid Javid was given a tour of facilities at BU’s Talbot Campus before talking to staff and students about Bournemouth’s excellent reputation for digital industry and the University’s ability to produce award-winning graduates.
The visit took place the day after BU graduates gained BAFTA accreditation for their visual effects work on the film Interstellar.
The visit was to highlight Bournemouth’s success following a Tech Nation report, featured in media outlets such as the Telegraph, that found Bournemouth to have the fastest growing digital economy in the UK, faster than London.
Sajid Javid is one of the leading candidates to succeed David Cameron. He was also named the most influential Asian in the UK.
In a brief chat with Nerve News, Mr Javid spoke about Bournemouth’s digital growth as well as student engagement in politics and voting. He said all politicians should attempt to engage with young people through platforms they use such as iPads, tablets and social media.
