Fine Art students at Arts University Bournemouth are hosting an auction this Thursday 5th March.

The auction is being held at the Arts Bar in the middle of AUB campus.

A silent auction will take place from 6-10pm, featuring the students work, and then a hammer auction for the tutor’s work and famous artists such as Richard Wentworth, Stephen Gill, Jeremy Gardiner, Jonny Briggs will begin from 7pm.

The event is taking place to help the course raise money for their end of year Graduate show, which is taking place in London and will showcase their work from over the past three years.

Ellie Sheldrake, a Fine Art student involved in the auction this week says: “There’s a lot of painting, there’s a few prints that have been donated as well which are really good value and they would be good to get your hands on.”

Ellie makes mainly sculpture: “I take a lot of advantage of the woodwork shop and access to different workshops but a lot of students do print and painting. I have donated some etchings from last year into the auction which I’m going to try and sell as a set of three.”

Even if you’re not an arty person, Ellie says “it’s a good opportunity to grab some art at a cheaper price as we’re all up and coming, some work will be really cheap, as well as the big names. Some work may be worth a lot more one day and will maybe go for a few pounds!”

There will also be a raffle with prizes such as meals out, champagne, afternoon tea, manicures, a free portrait, free artwork and a meal for four cooked by a chef.

The students are hoping to raise £8,000 to help pay for their show.

As well as the Auction, Fine Art have been holding nights at The Winchester Pub called SanFranDisco. These nights are themed and all proceeds go to funds for the Graduate scheme. It promises to be a night of Disco, Funk, House and Glitter, with sets from DJs such as Jack Priest.

There will be a bar selling drinks and snacks throughout the night and there is no entry fee to the event.
