TWO parliamentary candidates unable to attend a Poole hustings, unsuccessfully attempted to submit substitutes.
Only four of the six candidates standing for election turned up at the hustings, organised by Churches Together in Poole, at All Saints Church, Branksome.
Sitting Conservative MP Robert Syms has said he was too busy canvassing in Mid Dorset and North Poole to attend the evening meeting, while Labour candidate Helen Rosser, was unwell.
The Rev Charlie Boyle, who chaired the well attended meeting, told the audience there were representatives of both present, who were willing to answer questions on behalf of the missing candidates.
John Sprackling, chairman of Branksome Park, Canford Cliffs and District Residents Association who was in the audience said: "The Rev Boyle asked those who were present if they were happy for the representatives to speak on behalf of the two missing candidates.
"This was put to the vote and it was overwhelmingly agreed that neither representative should be allowed to speak."
"I'm told that the Labour representative was unhappy over the decision and 'stormed off'."
He added: "Feelings amongst those present were running very high over Robert Syms non-appearance."
The other candidates are Mark Howell of Poole People, David Young of Ukip and Adrian Oliver of the Green Party.
