There's a reason to be #BUPROUD this week as Bournemouth University climbs 11 places in The Complete University Guide to become 54th nationally.

The annual league table measures staff-to-student ratios, spending on facilities and prospects for graduates to work out the final league positions.

This move comes just a month after the opening of the new £10.5m Student Centre building in the middle of Talbot Campus and is reflective of BU’s ambition to become a top 50 university by 2018.

Bournemouth also managed to work its way up the South West rankings, becoming the 4th best university in the South West of England, behind Exeter (11th), Bath (12th) and Bristol (15th).

Students Union Bournemouth University (SUBU) President Chloe Schendel-Wilson says: “I think it’s really good for BU – students don’t always realise but the people at this university really care about the Uni and its students, so I think it’s good for them to get recognition!”

She thinks the reason for the climb is down to a number of things: “The uni are not only working towards a better campus, but they are always listening to what students want to make improvements to the quality of courses, and their extra curricular activities and the opportunities for placements are some of the best in the country – they are the only university that offer placements to every single student.”

Final year Geography student Zara Way-Sim believes this leap in the table “Could be good for when we leave from an employers perspective; they might look more favourably at our applications if we keep climbing the table.”

BU was among 11 other universities across the country to rise ten or more places in the table.

The University of Cambridge leads the table at the number 1 spot, with a Graduate Prospects score of 88.3 out of 100 and a Student Satisfaction score of 4.18 out of 5.00. The University of Oxford follows closely behind ranked as second and the London School of Economics takes 3rd place.
