The anticipation for the main stage was felt as soon as Sigma were announced as the headline act, however, it was not just the duo that impressed the crowds.
North London singer-songwriter Zak Abel opened the main stage with his soulful vocals. His performance of the Gorgon City track he features on - ‘Unmissable’ – was a clear highlight of his set. He was followed by Angel, who was announced as a replacement for M.O earlier in the week. The rapper really hyped up the crowd, playing some new material marking his return to the R&B scene soon.
The DJ’s did a great job of making the move from Angel to surfer-dude rockers Sunset Sons more cohesive considering their styles are worlds apart. It was hard not to reminisce on the many Friday nights spent in Lollipop with everyone singing to the likes of The Fratelli’s and The White Stripes, creating a great atmosphere ahead of Sunset Sons.
The four-piece made it into the BBC Sound of 2015 and if their Summer Ball performance is anything to go by they are sure to gain more mainstream success in future. The lead singer, Rory, had the packed-out tent clapping and dancing along within minutes and with the set enjoyable from the first song I am sure that they gained a lot of BU fans.
After a strong performance from Sunset Sons, the atmosphere was electric in anticipation for Sigma. As soon as the duo graced the stage the party began, with the crowd going crazy from start to finish. Every single person sang and danced along to their number one hit with Paloma Faith – ‘Changing’ –a crowning moment of not just the main stage but all of this year’s Summer Ball.
