THE National Trust says it is “working closely” with fire services after the cause of Tuesday night’s heath fire in Studland was revealed.
As reported, the massive heath fire was caused by the accidental spread of a bonfire.
The land is cared for by the National Trust and forms part of the UK’s first ‘super nature reserve’.
A National Trust spokesperson said: “We are aware of the findings by the fire brigade regarding the cause of the fire and [are] working closely with them.”
Dozens of firefighters rushed to the scene on Tuesday evening to tackle the blaze at Godlingston Heath which had been spotted by eyewitnesses across Bournemouth and Poole.
Crews from Swanage, Westbourne, Poole, Christchurch, Hamworthy and Wimborne along with other services were sent to the scene of the fire which burnt through the heath for more than two hours.
Despite being extinguished, crews returned to the scene on Wednesday and Thursday morning to deal with remaining hotspots.
