Poole Quay has been the home to many different industries over the years from the fishing voyages to Newfoundland and the exportation of goods there to the movement of trade goods from all over the world.

For years this was the main source of economy for the Quay but after the Second World War, there was a gradual shift toward tourism with the South Quay in Hamworthy being devoted to trade and industry.

The Poole Pottery factory and shop was one of the industries that survived on the North Quay for decades after many left, being the main attraction for visitors and locals alike. Sadly, the pottery closed its doors in 2017 making way for the Dolphins Quay development.

The Quay now hosts a multitude of eateries and many local events are held regularly boosting the thriving tourism economy for the town.
