A HUGE donation hub for goods to send to Ukraine has closed its doors as the efforts move to a smaller facility.
The donation hub at Castlepoint for group Help from Bournemouth to Ukraine shut on Thursday as organisers relocated.
The warehouse was offered to the group free of charge, in order to collect and store essential donations for those effected by the Ukraine crisis.
Karol Swiacki, founder of Help from Bournemouth to Ukraine, decided to relocate their donation centre to a smaller facility.
“It’s expensive for them” he said, “and we don’t need a big warehouse anymore.”
Karol explained that donations naturally slowed down, but the Army of Hope HQ (a nickname for the centre) “was a fantastic place”"
The Castlepoint warehouse was open for 45 days, during which more than 1,000 pallets of donations were packaged and sent to Poland and Ukraine.
“They (Castlepoint) are the reason we went so far” said Karol, “(the closure) is not sad, it is something I am proud of.”
The Help from Bournemouth To Ukraine group are now working with the Mayor of Bournemouth in securing another donation facility.
Decisions on where the new centre will be are to be decided after the Easter holidays.
