A PRIMARY school in Parkstone has received a glowing report by education inspectorate Ofsted who found pupils “have positive attitudes to learning”.
Heatherlands Primary School has once again been rated as ‘good’ following Ofsted inspections in late March, seven years after their previous inspection.
The school of 617 pupils from the ages of four to 11 are encouraged and guided “to grow into responsible and caring young people” by teachers according to the report.
Inspectors described the school as inclusive and a place where “everyone is welcome”. If bullying occurs, staff are reported to deal with it quickly.
This was the first inspection at the school since the pandemic and since Heatherlands became an academy in 2017. Ofsted officials discussed the impact of the pandemic with the school leaders and factored this into their report.
It was also found that pupils who have gaps in their knowledge caused by the disruption of the pandemic are catching up well.
In terms of room for improvement, inspectors noted: “At times, teaching is not adapted astutely to prioritise the most important knowledge pupils need to know next. Leaders must ensure that teaching includes all the building blocks of knowledge that pupils need to achieve well.”
