A KEY bus route through Poole has been altered indefinitely in order to protect drivers and passengers from continued attacks.
Morebus have said that they will cease serving Herbert Avenue and Arne Avenue in Poole after 8pm until further notice due to the “continued and dangerous attacks” on their fleet by groups of youths throwing rocks and other projectiles through bus windows.
In recent days, several attacks have been carried out with varying results of damage. Instances of criminal attacks to Morebus vehicles in this area recently have been reported every single day since Friday, July 22.

Another similar attack was also reported in Ashley Road, Parkstone, on Tuesday (July 26). A bus window was again smashed.
Mike Freeborn, Morebus operations manager, said: “We have reached the difficult decision that as of this evening (July 27), until further notice, we will be unable to serve Herbert Avenue and Arne Avenue after 8pm due to the continued and dangerous attacks being on our vehicles by a small minority of youths.

“This is not a decision we have taken lightly, and we sincerely regret the inconvenience this will cause to those who travel regularly with us and are simply trying to get on with their daily business, but we cannot continue to put our drivers or these valued customers in danger.
“We will keep this under review and aim to return when we feel it is appropriate to do so.”
A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Officers are carrying out enquiries into these reports and will be checking CCTV in the local area to identify those responsible.
“We are maintaining regular close communication with the bus company and patrols will continue to be carried out in the area in response to this reckless behaviour. If anyone has any information about who is involved, we would urge you to please speak to an officer.”
