A LARGE diversion route will be in place for motorists travelling around Corfe Castle later this month amid a five-week water main replacement project.
From Monday, October 31, until Friday, December 2, it is planned for a short section of the B3351 just north of Corfe Castle, near the entrance to Dorset Adventure Park, to be closed.
This is to enable Wessex Water to relocate and replace a degrading water main with a new one, spanning more than 1,000 metres in length.
While this work is carried out and following the approval of Dorset Council, a signposted diversion route will be in place via the A351 and Ulwell Road in Swanage.
The total diversion route totals more than 12 miles.
For example, in order to access Corfe Castle from Studland motorists will need to bypass the B3351 New Road by turning left at Swanage Road onto Ulwell Road and then ultimately the A351 – travelling through Harman’s Cross.
A Wessex Water spokesperson previously said: “We have been in contact with businesses and authorities throughout the Isle of Purbeck to advise them of the impact of the work and access arrangements.
“We will continue to update them on the progress of the project and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
