A forest nursery school in Dorset has received outstanding ratings across the board in their first Ofsted report.
Muddy Monkies in Blandford Forum received an outstanding rating overall and in all areas including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management.
Ofsted inspector, Jonathan Payne said: “Children flourish in this exceptional woodland setting.
“They arrive with anticipation, knowing that there will be lots of exciting things to do in the forest.
“Children form close bonds with staff, who cheerfully welcome them in the morning. As the day begins, children walk around the woods with their key person, talk about what is new in the forest today and what they need to do to keep safe.

“Children recall detailed knowledge about the natural environment. Throughout the day, they practise reading signs, books and discussing with staff different trees and plants.
“All children, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), are confident to talk and make their own choices.”
Managing director of Muddy Monkies, Gemma Collis said: “Daniela and I are over the moon to receive an outstanding Ofsted on our first inspection, we couldn't believe we did it, however we feel it goes to show how our ethos fully supports early years.
“There is so much incredible learning that happens in our woodland environment, and our children are thriving on being outside in all weathers.

“The children engage well with tool work and practice lighting their own fire, learning these life skills to carry on into adulthood.
“We believe we prepare children well to become independent, resilient and confident - ready to go to School.
“We would like to give a big thank you to our employees who work endlessly to support the children in our care, and our families for believing in how we can make a difference to their child's learning journey."
Muddy Monkies is a privately owned forest school registered in 2019. They operate from the outskirts of Blandford Forum in Dorset.
