A BOURNEMOUTH University sports club have made history, becoming the first team to win a national title at three levels.
The BU Falcons, the university’s competitive cheerleading squad, won first place in the level one, two and three national competitions at the UK University Nationals in Manchester.
They are also the first cheerleading programme to win two Grand Champ titles, as two of their three teams were the highest scorer within every division of their level.
These two teams, named Midnight and Electric, went up against the University of Durham in a Grand Champion round, for the title of Ultimate Grand Champion.
Electric, the programme’s top team, are now the Ultimate Grand Champions of 2023, and the top team in the UK.
Electric have been University Level three Grand Champion three years back-to-back, having won in 2020 and in 2022. The Level Two team are also back-to-back champions, having won in 2022.
The other Grand Champion team is new for 2023 as the club has grown, and it is mostly made up of students who have never done cheerleading before, making their title even more impressive.
Their head coach, Josie Symons, said: "This is an unbelievable achievement for the team to have such success at every level of the programme.
“It was an incredible feeling having two out of the three Grand Champions be BU teams. It's never happened before, so to be able to be a part of UK University Cheerleading history is something very special."
