TRAVELODGE has revealed the top 20 books left behind in hotel rooms in 2022, including its three hotels in Bournemouth.
The 2022 Books Left Behind Index, reveals the most popular books customers have left behind across the 580 UK Travelodge hotels.
The report shows a significant increase in customers leaving behind books since the end of the Covid lockdown.
A third of adults in Bournemouth reported they discovered or reignited a love for reading during the lockdowns and six out of ten adults in Bournemouth reported reading a book during the pandemic helped them to relax.
In the past 12 months, the most popular types of books left behind include novels that have been adapted into a movie or TV series, such as ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’.
Books detailing the life of Queen Elizabeth II also made the 2022 Travelodge Books Left Behind Index, as well as Paddington Bear who made a comeback during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
Shakila Ahmad, Travelodge spokesperson, said: “Interestingly, so far this year, we have already seen one popular book that will make our 2023 Books Left Behind Index and that is Spare by Prince Harry.”
A study by the chain revealed 52 per cent of adults in Bournemouth would leave a book in a hotel that they have read for someone else to enjoy.
All books left behind in a Travelodge hotel room, which are not claimed within three months, are donated to a local charity shop.
