A POPULAR railway television show has rolled through Dorset with its host and star snapped at a historic station.
Politician-turned-presenter Michael Portillo has been seen filming at Corfe Castle railway station this week as part of his returning Great Coastal Railway Journeys programme.
A spin off of Portillo’s long-running Great British Railway Journeys, the newest BBC series will partly explore Dorset's Jurassic Coast – including an episode featuring the Swanage Railway line which includes Corfe Castle.
Photos captured by Echo Camera Club member Helen Moore show the former defence secretary being filmed performing an interview and posing for a promotional image.
This comes soon after South Western Railway announced it would add Corfe Castle and Swanage to its destinations on sale for travel between April and September.
Tickets to the Purbeck stations had not been offered to network purchasers since the line was withdrawn in 1972.
Filmed entirely on location, the series features a mix of Portillo travelling on different rail routes across the UK coast. The weekly trip is a point-to-point journey to take in a variety of locations along the route.
The main series ran for 13 series from 2010 to 2021 and spanned 245 episodes, including some featuring Bournemouth and Poole.
The episode featuring Corfe Castle is expected to air in June.
