WITH the coronation weekend fast approaching, Westbourne is counting down with Union Jack flags, bunting and themed window displays in honour of the event.
To mark the historic coronation of King Charles III, businesses and residents have geared with parties, competitions and special incentives to unite the community.
A sea of bunting has been hung across Westbourne Arcade and surrounding areas with not a single building uncovered.
Long-time Westbourne resident Mo Simons said: “This is an amazing opportunity for the locals to come together and celebrate. By celebrating in our communities people don’t realise we are helping our local businesses as well as enjoying ourselves.
Attico which is located in the Westbourne Arcade is running a very unique event for children aged five to 11-years-old on Saturday between 10am and 2pm.
It gives them an opportunity to show off their creative minds and win a shop voucher by creating a crown 'fit for a king or mermaid'.
The event is free to enter with staff excited to see all the “incredible designs”.
Attico has a display in the shop window with a special crown which will go on display over the weekend.
Meanwhile, charity shop, Going for Bust, has a collection of royal-themed items for sale.
Shop owner and collector Jennifer Hamilton-Smith said: “This weekend is something very exciting, on display are items that I have been collecting proudly for years to commemorate the occasion.
“All money raised will be going towards breast cancer research, being an independent charity it's difficult to raise a lot of money sometimes but I’ll be very thankful to anyone who purchases these royal items.”
The Westbourne pub will be showing the whole coronation event alongside a British-themed disco for people to enjoy.
Manager Joanne Burton is encouraging everyone to come along and even try a new special coronation ale.
Several independent businesses will be closed on the weekend with a number of shop owners watching on from home or partaking in other events across Dorset.
