King Charles will make his first official visit to Poundbury today since being crowned in May.

The King and Queen Camilla will be visiting to mark the completion of Queen Mother Square in the centre of Poundbury.

It comes after Prince William visited Bournemouth yesterday to launch his Homewards scheme to end homelessness. 

The former Duke and Duchess of Cornwall will also observe a new bronze relief of Their Majesties themselves.

They will then open the Duke of Edinburgh Garden, before viewing a bust of the late Duke of Edinburgh.

Poundbury has had a long association with King Charles, having been built on Duchy of Cornwall land according to architectural principles advocated by the King as the former Duke of Cornwall.

Around 2,300 homes have been constructed in Poundbury since building work began in 1993, housing over 4,000 people, with 35% of homes being affordable housing.

The town provides employment for more than 2,500 people working in shops, cafes, offices and factories.

It is estimated that when it is completed in 2028, Poundbury will have grown to 2,740 homes, increasing Dorchester's population by around 25%.

The King and Queen will arrive at the Royal Pavillion today where a local brass band will greet them with music.

There, they will meet local dignitaries and those involved in the Royal Pavillion development, before being shown the new bronze reliefs.

Their Majesties will also meet the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley who created the reliefs.

They will then visit the Duke of Edinburgh Garden to untie a ribbon at the entrance to officially open the garden.

In the centre of the garden, Their Majesties will meet the landscape designer George Carter, before listening to local schoolchildren performing a special coronation song for the new monarch.

The children of Damers First School alongside headteacher Catherine Smith will then get a chance to meet the King and Queen.

The King and Queen will also visit the obelisk garden within the Duke of Edinburgh Garden to meet sculptor Frances Segelman.

Finally they will observe a bronze bust of the Late Duke of Edinburgh and meet the team responsible for building the garden.

It will be the first official visit of the monarch to Poundbury since he was crowned.
