A 20-METRE light tunnel is one of the new attractions announced for this year’s ‘refreshed’ Christmas Tree Wonderland.

Other new attractions for 2023 include projections from lampposts around Bournemouth's Lower Gardens, a lantern archway, flashing light stems, and a new walk-through Christmas present.

Now in its sixth year, the Christmas Tree Wonderland trail will return between Friday, November 17 and Monday, January 1.

It is organised by BCP Council with Bournemouth Coastal BID the main sponsor.

Councillor Andy Martin, portfolio holder for customer, communications and culture, BCP Council said: “Christmas Tree Wonderland initially represented a five-year investment in Bournemouth Town Centre, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to secure a one-year extension this year.

“We know people may be struggling with the cost of living, but this free light trail gives everyone the chance to come and enjoy the lights and really get into the festive spirit, making some great memories along the way.”

The centrepiece, a 60ft 3D walkthrough tree, will this year be dressed with decorations in the shape of Christmas trees.

While at night, visitors can see laser lights ‘shooting out the top’ amid new white lights of the tree.

Old favourites such as the Seattle and Kyiv trees, the Bethlehem scene, ceiling of light, giant reindeer and Santa will be making a return.

Fiona McArthur, manager of Bournemouth Coastal BID, said: “We are very pleased to ensure that Christmas Tree Wonderland will return for 2023.

“The event provides coastal cheer to thousands of residents who come to see the lights, it also attracts many overnight guests from out of the area, who stay in our Coastal BID hotels."

She added: "This event generates significant income for those businesses, and we will continue to listen to them and support their best interests.”
