‘COASTAL Critters’ have been hidden within Bournemouth stores as part of a captivating Halloween installation by the BID.

Visitors will spot the spooky faces along shopping streets of Boscombe, Westbourne and Southbourne as of this week.

The critters have been installed as part of a partnership between the Bournemouth Coastal BID and Designs in Air to bring cheerful artwork to the streets.

Fiona McArthur, Coastal BID Manager said: “We are bringing something different to our trading areas this Halloween, stepping up this season to bring cheerful and iconic artwork to our streets.

“The aim of the campaign is to give visitors yet another reason to come to our shopping areas, to further reinforce the fact that each of these are vibrant and innovative, all with their own personalities and all supported by a strong network of hard working and creative shop, restaurant and bar owners and staff.”

Designs in Air, who produced and installed the sculptures, have worked internationally with Glastonbury Festival, the Olympics and Fuji Rock Festival.

Fiona said the BID is ‘proud’ to bring the innovative sculptures into the ‘heart of the Coastal BID and brighten up the streets as we enter into the Christmas period’.

In Boscombe, the critters will be showcased on the big screen opposite to the entrance of the Sovereign Shopping Centre, with a lively show on a 3D building mapping until November 4.

Southbourne traders will be boosting the event by hosting a pumpkin carving competition where the public can vote for the best pumpkin.

A fancy dress event for children will also be held on Southbourne Green and Fisherman’s Walk on October 28.

Fiona said: “We would love nothing more than to see people engaging with the Critters and our events by spreading the hashtag Coastalcritters in order to provide ample opportunity for residents and tourists to explore, engage with, and enjoy our free, fun events and the wonderful businesses Boscombe, Westbourne and Southbourne.”
