A SOCIAL club in Highcliffe has been made subject to a review following an intervention from police.

Concerns have been raised that the Highcliffe Sports and Social Club is not complying with its club premises certificate.

Dorset Police fears the club is “not upholding the prevention of crime and disorder and public safety licensing objectives”.

The force has submitted an application to request a review by the BCP Council licensing authority.

A decision is yet to be made on the application, and it will remain open for public consultation until December 20.

Established in 1903, Highcliffe Sports and Social Club is a community facility located in Lymington Road.

It describes itself as “the friendliest club in the South”, which provides a meeting place, and a program of entertainment and activities.

The Daily Echo approached Highcliffe Sports and Social Club, Dorset Police and BCP Council for a comment on the review.

Dorset Police said it would not be appropriate to comment outside of the formal review process, while the social club did not respond.

A spokesperson for BCP Council said: This application for a review of the Club Premises Certificate for Highcliffe Sports and Social Club is being submitted by Dorset Police.

"This premise has experienced a variety of incidents and has received several visits from Dorset Police and other responsible authorities in an attempt to improve compliance over the last 12 months.

"Despite these interventions, Dorset Police remain concerned that the individuals responsible for delivery the licensable activities are not adhering to the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003."
