MORE than 100 Easter eggs have been collected by residents at a retirement home to help a foodbank make families' Easter wishes come true.
Residents at Rothesay Lodge in Highcliffe spent more than two weeks collecting Easter eggs of all different shapes and sizes.
The Easter eggs will be transported from the home to Christchurch foodbank.
Speaking to the residents, Sarah Lyon from Christchurch Foodbank said: “I am very impressed with your collection of eggs.
“They will be such a blessing to our families that come in.
"When I left this morning, I had three families sitting at tables getting support and it's not just food.
“They may come in for food, but we also help out with them if they're struggling with debts or their housing. We have a lot of teams around us that can help anyone who comes in.
“As a parent, I always wanted my children to have all I could give them.
“I want them to have Christmas and Easter and birthday.
“It must be heartbreaking to think I can't afford to buy an Easter egg for my child, to think I can't afford chocolate for my child.
“So this makes a massive difference, not only to the children but to the parents as well.
“I think you're all amazing to have thought of us.”
Brenda, one of the residents at the home, also has a hobby for haberdashery and knitted little hats for the Easter eggs.
Speaking of the event, resident Cathy Matthews added: "It was nice to give back to the community and a great turnout for the home.
"I'm glad so many Easter eggs will be taken to bring joy to families."
Lodge manager Tony said: "It's a brilliant event and a great atmosphere and all for a good cause as well."
