AN HISTORIAN has been gifted a brick of a historic pub that has been redeveloped into new homes.
Chairman of the Milton Heritage Society and Milton historian, Nick Saunders, was given a brick by developers Pennyfarthing Homes on a visit to the site on May 2.
Undergoing a unique restoration project, the building used to be The George pub which dated back to 1905 before its last pint was poured in 1999 and sold to Pennyfarthing in 2020.
Nick said: “I have a love of the local architecture and history in New Milton and witnessing the transformation of this old public house into homes for local people has given me great satisfaction, as the building will be preserved for generations to come.
"The bricks used in the 1905 construction of The George, most likely originated from a local brick kiln in nearby Gore, New Milton. I would like to thank Pennyfarthing for preserving a piece of this building's rich history for me.”
The new homes were unveiled on April 20 and comprise eight one and two-bedroom apartments in the building's original structure and two houses in its former grounds.
Prices start at £200,000.
