5 of the best coastal circular walks in Dorset

Lulworth Cove to Durdle Door and Ringstead Bay

This 11.6km long trail starts at Lulworth Cove car park, then goes over farmlands and above the cliffs of White Nothe before winding back via Bat's Head, Durdle Door and Man O' War Cove.

It is described as being a "scenic coastal path with amazing views of the geological features".

There are some very steep and rough sections along this route requiring care and appropriate footwear.

Worth Matravers, Winspit, and St. Aldhelms Head Circular

This 7.4km route should take you around two hours to complete and is described as taking in "beautiful and craggy coastal cliffs".

The profile adds: "Some of the steps are more challenging to navigate, although there are also some level parts on the trail. As an added benefit, it is a fantastic position for seeing coastal birds of prey."

Old Harry Rocks and Studland Circular

Taking approximately two and a half hours to complete, this 10km walk takes "in a mix of coastal and heathland scenery".

The walk goes along clifftop paths, out to Old Harry Rock, through Studland, and back over the heath.

It adds: "Enjoy great views out to sea and of the headlands and sea stacks, but take care on the rougher sections, especially in wetter and windy conditions along the exposed cliff paths."

Portland Lighthouses Circular

A shorter coastal circular walk can be found with the Portland Lighthouses trail, which is only 5.5 km long.

It should take you around one hour and 20 minutes to complete and will pass two of the three lighthouses of Portland Bill.

The profile adds: "The route follows the coast path, which is high and narrow in places, so take care with children and dogs. There are also a number of kissing gates to negotiate along the way."

Abbotsbury Hills and Coast

If you're looking for a little bit of a longer walk then this route should do the trick with it being 12.7 km long.

It should take you around three hours and 20 minutes to complete, with it showing "stunning views over a long stretch of coast".

After climbing the South Dorset Ridgeway walkers should head "down through the tiny village of West Bexington and back to Abbotsbury along the South West Coast Path alongside Chesil Beach and via St Catherine's Chapel".
