If helping to combat youth homelessness in the UK is something you feel deeply about, Centrepoint is looking for someone just like you.
As the UK’s leading organisation in this sector, Centrepoint, alongside its partners, supports more than 16,000 young people every year – and campaigns tirelessly in its mission to end youth homelessness by the year 2037.
Right now Centrepoint is recruiting to a brand new service in Bournemouth that applies the Housing First principles to 18-25 year olds. This is your opportunity to be part of a force for good and one of the first in the country to deliver this innovation to vulnerable young people.
The challenges are very real, with an estimated one in every 52 young people in the UK either homeless or at risk of being made homeless. According to Centrepoint’s own research, almost 136,000 young people asked for help with finding a place to call home just last year alone.
Tragically, being homeless makes a young person more vulnerable to grooming and exploitation. This is on top of the severe mental toll that homelessness can have on young minds.
Centrepoint uses trauma-informed principles of safety, choice, collaboration, empowerment and trust in building relationships with young people.
Your role will be instrumental in making a massive difference to young people who have experienced trauma and face the most challenging starts to their lives.
At the heart of your mission will be Housing First. This is an evidence-based approach to successfully support homeless people who have high needs and histories of entrenched or repeat homelessness to live in their own homes. Housing First programmes give people their own home straight away, alongside intensive support to maintain it.
By joining Centrepoint, you not only help others but have support to improve your own personal and professional development. Difficult situations will arise and often you must make decisions under pressure, but at all times you will have psychologically informed support for yourself, alongside structured professional development and training.
Centrepoint’s staff benefits package includes competitive salaries, the chance to be part-funded for a course, enhanced maternity entitlement and two weeks paternity leave, flexible working opportunities, discretionary compassionate leave, the opportunity to apply for a sabbatical after two years to attend full-time study relevant to your work area and life insurance/death in service.
