Bournemouth and the surrounding areas in 1986 would have looked quite similar to how it does today, though with some key differences.
The Bournemouth International Centre was a relatively new landmark and had opened its doors just a few years prior.
The Winter Gardens, which housed a cinema, gallery, restaurant, and function rooms, was still a popular entertainment venue in 1986. It even hosted some big-name bands like The Ramones and New Order that year.
Christchurch Road would have been lined with shops like Long's bar, which is no longer there, and the Dalkeith Arcade, now known as Richmond Gardens Shopping Centre.
Safeway supermarket was quite popular back in 1986. Bournemouth had a Safeway store located under the multi-storey car park in Avenue Road.
These are just a few examples, but Bournemouth had numerous other buildings and businesses that year.
