A DORSET care home commemorated the D-Day anniversary in true British style for a mix of remembrance and celebration.
Parley Place care home in West Parley brought together a community of staff and residents to remember the great sacrifices made during the Second World War.
Following the formal service, afternoon tea was served on china crockery, and everyone enjoyed being serenaded by Nicole Young.
Gina Smith, general manager at Parley Place care home, said: “Many of our residents can remember the D Day Landings and we all know what it meant for our country, so we wanted to mark the date, it’s important to us to include our community in marking this poignant day.”
Andrew Parry, West Parley Parish councillor, said “Today, our village came together to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. We paid tribute to all the brave military personnel who took part, remembering those lost in battle. But we also celebrated the freedom they fought for, which we are forever in their debt.”
Pam, a resident at Parley Place said: “It was such a beautiful afternoon, remembering the sacrifices people made for us. It was lovely for us to chat with people from our community and hear the stories of loved ones from the war and how they remembered the events of that day 80 years ago.”
