TWO people have been injured, with one suffering “significant” burns, after a boat exploded in a yacht club.

Emergency services were called to the vessel at Lymington Yacht Haven marina on Tuesday afternoon, June 11.

Lymington’s RNLI team has confirmed one man has been seriously injured from the incident, suffering “significant” burns to his face, hands and legs.

A spokesman said: “The lifeboat crew were first on scene and updated HM Coastguard crew on the status of the two casualties.

“Lifeboat crew administered emergency first aid to both victims, cooling and wrapping burns along with administering a nebuliser to negate any risk of inhalation burns. “

Lifeboat crewman James Douch added: "All the rescue services and marina staff worked together seamlessly to administer vital casualty care. We wish the casualties a speedy recovery.”

An air ambulance was also reportedly seen nearby, along with fire crews and paramedics. Hampshire police has confirmed it did not attend.

The condition of the other man is believed to be not as serious as the man with significant burns.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service's spokeswoman added: "On-call firefighters from Lymington responded to a call that came in just before 1pm on Tuesday 11 June reporting a yacht fire in Lymington.

"The fire which was located in the engine compartment of the vessel was out on arrival, the crew carried out a full check on the engine compartment with thermal imaging equipment to ensure no signs of heat before handing the incident over to the owner and onsite staff and heading back to station."
