Poole Wetherspoon pub The Quay appeals noise abatement notice

The Quay in Poole was first handed the notice by BCP Council on January 17 of this year.

It followed complaints made to the local authority's Environmental Health Team relating to noise coming from plant machinery on the pub’s roof.

Now, Weatherspoon has appealed the abatement notice, and said it has ‘taken action’ to deal with the issue.

A spokesman for Wetherspoon told the Daily Echo: “A noise abatement notice has been served on the premises due to noise coming from cooling equipment on the roof.

"We have taken action to prevent the noise and we are currently assessing the impact of the steps taken.

"The equipment is also turned off each night to prevent any disturbance to our neighbours."

The appeal was due to be heard at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday, June 7, but the hearing was adjourned to Tuesday, September 3.

Before this date, Wetherspoon will have to gather and serve witness statements, expert reports, documents, and any other relevant evidence.

A BCP Spokesperson said: "The Council’s Environmental Health Team had received complaints in regard to noise emanating from plant machinery on the roof of The Quay, 21 The Quay Poole.

"We have engaged with the business and have taken enforcement under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and served a noise abatement notice."

The Daily Echo also asked Wetherspoon on what grounds it was appealing the noise abatement notice.

The chain had not responded to this question at the time of publication.

Bosses at The Quay announced earlier this year they were going to be closing the pub.

However, they said it will only close down once the waterfront premise has been sold – meaning the exact date is unknown.

Estate agent Savills is now marketing the pub, and is welcoming offers in excess of £1.75m.

The premises are held on a lease for a term of 125 years, expiring on November 5, 2121, at a fixed peppercorn rent.
