CUBS have celebrated a long-standing leader at their annual weekend camp.
Bournemouth District Cubs came together at Butcher’s Coppice on the weekend of June 7.
The Cubs travelled to a clay mine at Corfe Castle then on to Durlston County Park on Saturday, before spending Sunday working towards their athletics badge.
Over the weekend, a presentation was held by Dan Scott to Barrie Witheridge of the 38th Bournemouth Scout group.
This year, Barrie will celebrate 70 years of being a leader within the scouting movement.
Barrie founded the weekend camp in 1966 and other events such as swimming galas and weekend camps for older Cubs.
He is also a very active member at Winton Methodist Church for whom he also organises many events, and works with the Faith Works charity sharing his woodworking skills with others.
Barrie has been described as an “inspiration to all”.
A spokesperson for Bournemouth District Cubs said: “Congratulations and thank you Barrie from all of those you have influenced and supported over those 70 years.
“A great day was had by all and thank you to all who organised this.”
