Families flocked to the 800th anniversary fete at Beaulieu Abbey two decades ago.
Members of Beaulieu Brass Band dressed in habits in commemoration of the Cistercian Monks who founded the New Forest monastery in the 13th century, and pupils from Beaulieu Primary School recited the history of the site in rhyming verse.
Guest of honour was the late radio presenter Ed “Stewpot” Stewart, a close friend of the Montagu family.
Money raised by the annual event on July 18, 2004 – around £10,000 – was shared between Beaulieu clubs and societies and the church.
