IT'S EXPECTED to become the go-to destination for outdoor gear for New Forest walks.
Renowned outdoor clothing brand Páramo has opened a new store in Christchurch Road in Ringwood where customers will receive a 20 per cent discount throughout July.
It will showcase Páramo’s full collection of ethically manufactured and sustainable performance clothing, including award-winning waterproof jackets, trousers, breathable layers and accessories.
Also expect a selection of outdoor products from well-known brands including Dorset-based Elliot Brown Watches, Darn Tough Vermont, Ortlieb, Hydro Flask and Ledlenser.
CEO Richard Pyne said: “As the gateway to the stunning New Forest National Park, and a hub for outdoor enthusiasts, Ringwood is the perfect location for our new store.
"We look forward to welcoming adventurers and nature lovers alike, providing them with the gear they need to explore and enjoy the great outdoors responsibly.”
Páramo Directional Clothing has achieved a cult following among hill walkers, mountaineers, UK Armed Forces, divisions of the Police, and Mountain Rescue Teams for its waterproofs.
The small independently owned brand boasts impressive eco-credentials, and their manufacturing process has helped save the lives of thousands of women and children in war-torn Colombia over the years.
Páramo’s unique selling point is that their jackets keep you warm and dry in the cold and wet without damaging the environment. The brand is a long-term favourite of the British Antarctic Survey and Greenpeace campaigners.
Back in 1992, Nick Brown, owner of Páramo and inventor of Nikwax (the waterproofing agent which keeps Páramo jackets dry without using polluting chemicals) stumbled upon a group of nuns on a Colombian hillside with two sewing machines and a big idea.
As it happened, Nick was looking for a small scale manufacturing plant outside of the UK to kick-start production of a range of outdoor clothing using his newly invented fabric. Based on mammal skin, the fabric is designed to keep you dry both on the inside and the outside.
The company now has stores located in London, Wadhurst, East Sussex and Keswick, and may look to expand beyond its latest Hampshire launch.
