TWO accessible and energy efficient bungalows in Bournemouth are ready to welcome new residents.
The environmentally friendly homes in Kinson have been constructed to support residents who need accessible facilities at affordable rents.
Each bungalow, built by BCP Council, has two bedrooms and a level access shower which is a wheelchair accessible requirement.
All BCP Council new builds are built to Passivhaus principles, meaning they have triple glazing, airtight construction and elevated levels of insulation.
Passivhaus is a quality assured standard and methodology for low energy building, which can help create buildings which use around 75 per cent less energy than standard practice for a UK new build.
Electric heating in the homes is supplied by an air source heat pump and together with excellent, A-rated levels of insulation helps reduce energy bills and CO2 emissions.
Cabinet member for housing Kieron Wilson said: “This project in Bournemouth fits in with our long-term plans to modernise our properties where required and reduce future maintenance costs.
“This can include the redevelopment of existing properties.
“We are sure that the attractive design, high energy saving and insulation levels together with great accessibility inside and out will help enhance the lives and wellbeing of the residents.”
