NHS Dorset has issued its advice ahead of a yellow heat health alert that will be in place this week, as temperatures could hit 30 degrees centigrade.

The alert, from the UK Health Security Agency, has been issued for across the south west from 9am on Monday, July 29 until Wednesday, July 31.

The NHS reminded people to stay well in the heat by drinking plenty of fluids, dressing appropriately, staying in the shade and limiting strenuous activity.

A spokesperson for NHS Dorset said: “Anyone can become unwell when the weather is hot, but some are at higher risk.

“Look out for older people, people with long-term health conditions & young children.”

As reported, the agency issued the alert for the start of the week, with temperatures now predicted to hit 30 degrees, according to the Met Office.

Monday is likely to be the coolest of the three days subject to the alert, with highs of 26 degrees predicted, while temperatures could hit 30C on Tuesday.

The forecasting agency then predicts temperatures to drop slightly to 28C.

This follows higher-than-average rainfall figures in Dorset for the first half of July.
