THE owners of an outdoor sauna coming to Christchurch have proposed changes to its opening hours.
Saltwater Sauna Ltd has applied to BCP Council to extend the opening hours of its proposed new site in Avon Beach.
As reported, the company was granted planning permission to flatten six beach huts close to the Noisy Lobster restaurant to make space for an outdoor sauna building.
A planning condition was set preventing the sauna from operating outside the hours of 6.30am and 5pm between September 1 and March 31, 6.30am and 7.30pm between April 1 and June 30, and 6.30am and 11.30am, and 5.30pm and 10.30pm, between July 1 and August 31.
Now, the sauna owners have requested the condition is varied to become: ‘The saunas shall not operate outside the hours of 6.30am and 9pm between September 1 and June 30, and 6.30am and 10.30pm between July 1 and August 31.’
BCP Council is yet to make a decision on the application.
Saltwater Sauna Ltd already operate a highly successful beach-sauna at Sandbanks, and owners have hinted at other new locations being opened in the future.
