ONE of the south's oldest people enjoyed an afternoon of fun with toddlers and pre-schoolers, alongside fellow care home residents.

Dorothy Parker, 104, and other residents of Colten Care's Brook View home, in West Moors, welcomed a visit from the Jiggy Wrigglers early years group.

The meeting featured music, movement, games and colourful props.

The youngest participant, at only eight weeks of age, bridged the century gap from the other direction.

Dorothy stated she was "thrilled to watch the little ones delight in the bubbles, puppets, colourful lights and music and dance".

Fellow resident, Diana Pearce, said: "It was a joy to watch and be with them on such a lovely afternoon."

Other residents taking part in the fun included Joan Campbell, Janet Silcocks, Cybil Conner, and Barbara Phillips.

Lauren Parrett, Brook View companionship team leader, said: "It was an occasion that entertained everyone."

Jiggy Wrigglers, an award-winning children’s music and movement company, came to the care home as part of its Jiggy Vintage programme.

The programme brings the over-60s together with children to have fun and support physical and mental wellbeing.

Research among elderly people has suggested that positive interaction with younger generations can stimulate happy memories of earlier times in life.
