WETHERSPOON has applied to extend the opening hours of one of its pubs.

Bosses at the Parkstone and Heatherlands in Wimborne Road, Winton have asked BCP Council if the pub can stay open until 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.

And on Sundays to Thursdays, bosses have asked to keep the pub open until 12.30am. Parkstone and Heatherlands is currently allowed to trade until 11.30pm seven days a week.

Louie Sneddon, principal planner at Nineteen47 for Wetherspoon, said the results of a noise measurement survey found that the volume is “dominated by road traffic noise” in the high street and “general street activity”.

She said: “During the current late trading hours between midnight and 1.30am, patrons entering and leaving are generally only audible during lulls in traffic.

“Any adverse change in measured ambient noise levels at the nearby residential receptor locations between 23:00-00:00 and 00:00-01:30 may be attributed to a gradual reduction in traffic on Wimborne Road.

“As such, the noise impact associated with extending the existing trading hours at the premises to 1.30am, is expected to be low.

She added: “Notwithstanding this, JD Wetherspoons have management protocols in place for all of their public houses and successfully operate in many locations which have residential properties in close proximity.

“This includes measures such as CCTV, ensuring staff and customers are made aware of the need to respect neighbours, a complains system and through the use of signage.”

Winton resident Jay, 57, believes that if the pub was to open longer, it would be “good for the economy”.

He said: “It will be good for the economy, won’t it? People are out drinking more, spending more money.

“Sure, there may be more noise from the students who are out late but there are other bars open later than that so it will be no different.”

The pub was given permission by BCP Council back in October 2022 to open for longer hours, with opening times from 8am to midnight. Last orders are at 11.30pm.

BCP Council will decide on the proposed opening hours of Parkstone and Heatherlands in due course. Comments can be submitted to BCP Council.
