A SPORTS hydration business that has recently opened its headquarters in the New Forest has hired new roles within the company.
Precision Fuel and Hydration, a leading global expert on sweat, hydration and fuelling for sport, has appointed a new head of sports science and senior sports scientist to further expand its expertise.
Precision Fuel & Hydration’s newest appointments will be combining their expertise in nutrition, metabolism and human thermoregulation to provide science-based expert advice to the company’s growing community of elite and amateur athletes around the world.
Dr Sam Shepherd, the new head of sports science at Precision Fuel & Hydration, said: “I worked at Liverpool John Moore’s University (LJMU) for 12 years, conducting research on carbohydrate and fat metabolism during exercise, and how manipulating nutrition could improve the exercise response.
“My experience will lend itself well to developing and improving the advice that we give to athletes we work with.
“Part of my remit will also involve collaborating on research projects with universities to move our understanding of fuelling for sport and our guidelines forward.”
Alongside the new appointments, PH&F opened a new HQ in the New Forest and has launched partnerships with GCN, Ironman and Leadville Race Series.
Doubling in size since May this year, the PF&H Sports Science team now also includes Lindsey Hunt, senior sports scientist.
Lindsey said: “I recently completed my PhD at the Thermal Ergonomics Lab at the University of Sydney, where I investigated the factors that affect sweat rates during outdoor endurance exercise in order to help athletes develop better hydration strategies.
“I’ve specialised in heat acclimation and even set up my own heat acclimation studio where I’d offer heat acclimation advice for athletes preparing to perform in the heat.
“I’m excited to be able to implement what I’ve learned here at PF&H.”
Based near Highcliffe, PF&H supply athletes in more than 90 countries and does fulfilment operations in five countries on three continents.
Sam and Lindsey will help the PH&F's sports science team to support top sports stars, which includes Olympians, premier league football clubs and Wimbledon tennis aces.
