Vueling has launched a unique competition that could allow people with specific names to get free flights to visit a Spanish hotspot at the end of August.

The airline is doing this to celebrate La Tomatina, the world’s largest tomato-throwing festival, hosted in Buñol, Spain on Wednesday, August 28.

Vueling has four pairs of flights and tickets available, and the lucky winners will be flown out from London Gatwick the day before the festival, giving them an opportunity to practise their aim before the big day.

They can then choose the date of their return flight, so they can take some time to enjoy the area, its cultural landmarks and beautiful beaches.

What names can enter the Vueling free flights competition?

Couples, friends or family members in the UK whose names are Tom and Tina – or a variant of them, like Valentina or Tino – can enter Vueling’s random prize draw.

They have the chance to win free flights to Valencia and complimentary tickets to the festival where they'll join 22,000 others in the world’s biggest food fight. 

To enter the competition, all they have to do is visit the website here and enter their details.

In terms of exactly what happens at the festival the La Tomatina Tours website explains: "At around 12 Noon a number of trucks haul the bounty of tomatoes into the centre of the town, Plaza del Pueblo. The tomatoes come from Extremadura, where they are less expensive.

"Technically the festival does not begin until one brave soul has climbed to the top of a two-story high, greased-up wooden pole and reached the coveted ham at the top.

"In practice this process takes a long time and the festival starts despite no one reaching the meaty prize.

"The signal for the beginning of the fight is firing of water cannons, and the chaos begins. Once it begins, the battle is generally every man for himself."

The battle finishes after an hour with fire trucks spraying water from a nearby aqueduct to clean the streets, which is significantly helped by the acid in the tomatoes removing the dirt. 

The website adds: "There is limited accommodation for people who come to La Tomatina, so many people take the easier option of staying in nearby Valencia just 38km to Bunol by bus or train.

"In preparation for the dirty mess that will ensue, shopkeepers use huge plastic covers on their storefronts in order to protect them from the carnage."
