ADDITIONAL security measures will be used by BCP Council ahead of this weekend's planned protests in Bournemouth.
Leader of BCP Council, Cllr Millie Earl, has reassured residents that additional security measures will be put in place ahead of the planned protests outside Bournemouth town hall on August 18.
This has included the installation of CCTV cameras in key areas and an increase in community safety accreditation scheme patrols.
Cllr Earl said: "We know from what we have seen nationally that some of our communities may be worried and anxious.
"The local neighbourhood policing team and CSAS officers have been visiting town centre businesses to update and reassure people and answer any questions.
"Alongside the police, our council officers have been speaking to community and faith leaders, businesses and resident groups to provide reassurance and support.
"Our youth outreach team is also continuing to engage with children and young people to support and advise."
Named 'Take Back Our Country', the protest has been described by event organisers as a 'peaceful' event, however, concern has been raised after violence and damage seen across the UK in similar planned events.
Counter-protestors have organised their own protest at Bournemouth town hall at the same time.
Cllr Earl said: "Whilst the organisers have assured the police these are to be peaceful protests, we have been working with Dorset Police and other partners to make sure we are ready and prepared for all eventualities.
"You will see an increase in police resources in the town centre on Sunday 18 August. Please do not let this alarm you. This is to make sure there is enough resource to police the protests that are due to take place that day at Bournemouth Civic Centre."
Cllr Earl has warned against information seen across social media and stated that 'not all information is accurate'.
She revealed council has been working with the police to make sure both have the correct facts.
The council has prepared for a busy weekend as warm weather continues in the area which means "just like any other weekend, people can expect to come to our beaches, gardens and town centre and enjoy themselves."
