BOURNEMOUTH West’s newly elected MP has resigned her seat as a councillor in London.
Jessica Toale was first elected as councillor for the West End ward in the City of Westminster in 2022 before her general election win for Labour last month.
Mrs Toale previously told the Echo that resigning her seat as a councillor was “always the plan” following speculation among Bournemouth's residents that she wouldn’t.
MPs are allowed to continue as a councillor, such as the case with Mid Dorset and North Poole MP Vikki Slade who represents Broadstone.

The City of Westminster called a by-election on August 9 following Mrs Toale’s resignation, with her former residents going to the polls on September 19.
Her neighbour MP Tom Hayes for Bournemouth East was also a councillor in Oxford City Councillor but resigned on March 5.
Mrs Toale won her seat for Bournemouth West by a majority of nearly 3,000 votes, beating her predecessor Sir Conor Burns for the Conservatives.
