MILFORD on Sea is set to undergo coastal protection improvements.
New Forest District Council will be improving protection along the coastline at Milford on Sea by placing rocks in front of the seawall, repairing groynes and adding shingle to increase beach levels.
The work site is to be set up on August 27 in Hurst Road, with rock due to be delivered to the beach at the start of September.
The first stage of the works involves the installation of 1,100 tonnes of rock, known as a rock revetment.
This rock will act as a barrier to waves at the toe of the seawall.
Enhancements will commence where beach levels are low, particularly at the eastern end of the beach huts, allowing shingle to easily settle over time.
Also included in this phase is the repair of several timber groynes in the area.
The second stage of the operation, planned for October, entails an influx of 2,500 tonnes of shingle to boost beach levels.
This measure is aimed at enhancing the seawall’s resilience against winter weather.
Cllr Geoffrey Blunden, portfolio holder for environment and sustainability, said: "This piece of maintenance work is vitally important to provide protection to an ageing seawall and supports the Shoreline Management Policy of 'hold the line'."
