Through this, Southbourne was created.

The initial development of Southbourne began in the 1880s, with Dr. Compton overseeing the construction of new homes, shops, and recreational facilities.

The town quickly gained popularity due to its picturesque location, sandy beaches, and pleasant climate.

In 1901, Southbourne officially became part of the borough, marking a significant milestone in its growth.

The transition from a small village to a thriving residential area was rapid, as more and more people were drawn to the seaside charm and opportunities offered by the burgeoning community.

To cater to the increasing population, a diverse range of small businesses emerged in Southbourne.

Local shops, restaurants, and cafes provided essential goods and services to the residents, while recreational facilities and attractions ensured that there was always something to do.
