A WOMAN was winched up to a coastguard helicopter after falling in Swanage.

A coastguard helicopter, the ambulance service, a Hazard Alert Response Team and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) responded to the incident.

A spokesperson for DWFRS said: “Crews from Swanage and Wareham, along with technical rescue teams from Poole were called to Winspit Road, Worth Matravers, at 1.03pm yesterday afternoon, to assist our ambulance colleagues with an incident involving a fall from height.

“Firefighters assisted in casualty care and our stop was in at 2.43pm.”

Wareham Fire Station also posted on its social media channels, wishing the casualty a speedy recovery, it read: “One fire engine was sent to assist the ambulance service with a medical incident at Winspit.

“Also attending was an engine from Swanage, the Tech Rescue team from Poole, the Coastguard and specialist ambulance HART team and the police.

“The person was transferred by stretcher to the waiting Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter and then airlifted to a nearby hospital.

“We wish the person a speedy recovery.”

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “A woman reported to have fallen over at Winspit Quarry, near Worth Matravers, was winched up to the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent and transferred to Poole hospital.

“The alarm was raised at about 1.10pm on 28 August. St Albans and Kimmeridge Coastguard Rescue Teams (CRTs) attended to assist Southwestern Ambulance Service and Dorset Fire and Rescue Service at the scene.

“Poole CRT assisted with the helicopter landing.”

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 12:53hrs on Wednesday 28 August to an incident in Swanage.

"We sent one double-crewed land ambulance, an air ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and an operations officer to the scene. We conveyed one patient by air ambulance to Poole Hospital”.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "At 1.25pm on Wednesday 29 August 2024, Dorset Police received a report of a woman requiring medical attention in Winspit Road in Swanage.

"Officers attended to assist the emergency services. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries."
